Maxus is a new car brand in the Niemi Bil family. With a strong focus on electric vans, they have become very popular in Northern Sweden..
But how much do you know about Maxus? We took the opportunity to ask Christoffer at our place!
What is Maxus?
Maxus is a car brand owned by SAIC Motors. One of the world's largest car manufacturers, selling over 5 million cars each year. (If you look at Volvo Cars, it's around 600,000 cars per year for comparison).
Maxus is particularly good at electric cars and has niched itself a little bit more towards transport vehicles and cars for companies.
Is it a new car brand?
For some in Sweden it's a new brand. But if you look around the world, absolutely not. SAIC Motor (which owns Maxus) has sold the most cars in China for 17 years in a row, for example.
Okay, big in China – is that where the cars are made?
Yes, that's right.
Sometimes there is skepticism about China – are these products good for us who live here? But then you have to consider that Apple, Adidas, Armani – yes even Volvo have production in China. Many big brands that we like and use every day are made in China.
When it comes to electric cars, it is also one of the regions in the world that has come the furthest in its development.

Maxus' electric pickup T90EV is the latest release that has just arrived in Sweden.
Up for proof then - how do Maxus electric cars work in the winter in Northern Sweden?
Maxus' passenger car Euniq6 performed best in the world's largest winter test – out of 29 models. What was investigated was how much of the range was lost during winter driving. A test that was done in Norway, so much is probably similar for us here.
For the eDeliver 3 and 9 delivery trucks, we did an interview with a Norrbotten resident who drove his e-Deliver 3 for an entire winter. For those curious, you can read it here here.
We don't have any winter tests for their electric pickup T90EV as it has just been launched. But the fact that their other models have performed well in winter is a good sign.
How is the quality and safety then?
Maxus has good new car warranties that last for five years or up to 10,000 kilometers. That's more than many other brands. And for electric cars in particular, they have a battery warranty of 8 years or 16,000 kilometers.

Maxus specialists are also available at Niemi Bil on the workshop and service side.
But the cars need service too?
We have Maxus specialists on the workshop side – so you are warmly welcome. Maxus electric cars have the nice thing that they should be serviced every 2 years. So you can save some time, money and energy there too.
What is most attractive then – is it the operating costs?
Being able to run on electricity is number one – and with that comes low operating costs, of course.
If you look at their pickup T90EV, 360 SEK in annual tax – the diesel equivalent is about 25-30,000 SEK in tax. So it's about 98% lower here.
The actual driving, if you land on 3-4 SEK/mile here quickly calculated, you are often up to 20 SEK/mile with diesel equivalent. Everything is affected by driving style and electricity price, etc. But all else being equal, there is a huge difference in what it costs to own and drive the cars.
How should you think if you are in the process of choosing and qualifying to switch to electric?
Don't worry too much, take a test drive and you'll see how it feels! Then it's easy to think all or nothing – I think that's a bit wrong. It's wise in a vehicle fleet to change some of the cars and choose electric. You will gain a lot from that, but still be able to keep the other cars.
Simply one step at a time.
Thank you Christoffer, if I want to know more about Maxus?
