It is a requirement that all cars and light trucks on the roads need at least a traffic insurance policy. The insurance pays compensation to drivers, passengers and others who are injured in an accident. It also compensates for damage you cause to another vehicle. You yourself cannot receive compensation for your damaged property.
Semi-insurance protects your car against, among other things: fire, glass and theft damage or burglary. You can also receive compensation for engine and electronics failures and have legal expenses and rescue insurance.
A comprehensive insurance policy includes the coverage in the semi-insurance policy and also gives you vehicle damage insurance. It protects you against damage that occurs to your own car, for example in traffic accidents, vandalism and parking damage. Vehicle damage insurance covers sheet metal and paint damage to the car's body and chassis.
If you have borrowed to purchase your car, you are usually also required to take out comprehensive insurance.
