Jonas Berglund is the golden hero from Älvsbyn who was one of the first in Luleå Hockeyförening to get behind the wheel of a car from MG. We called up to talk to one of the biggest loyalists and hear what he has to say about the classic British car brand!
2024 was the year when Niemi Bil became a dealer for MG, with the goal of making the electric car available to everyone, even without having to empty the piggy bank. It was also the year when Luleå Hockey's journey towards the first gold in almost 30 years would begin. A gold that Jonas Berglund would be very involved in salvaging. But what does he think of his MG, which has been a faithful companion to him throughout the golden season?

The MG4 is MG's most popular car in Sweden in recent years.
Hi Jonas Berglund, Luleå's own Iniesta! What did you think of MG as a brand before you had a test drive?
I had no idea about the brand at all, to be honest. I got wind of it because Niemi Bil was going to bring it in and that's how I first became aware of the brand.
I test drove it and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't have much expectation before, as I said I didn't know the brand. But I honestly think they are really nice cars to drive. My partner has driven ours almost daily and commuted to Boden.
…And what do you think now, an eventful year later?
I've had it for about a year now, and I think it's been stable and has retained that new car feel I had from the start. They're fun cars to drive too!

What made you choose an MG?
I've always had good contact with the guys at Niemi Bil. They've always had a good collaboration with Luleå Hockey and I've driven Mazda through them for 7-8 years before. So I felt completely safe trying something new here with them.
How did it feel to try out such a new car brand in Sweden?
I'm a bit of a gadget nerd myself and like new things. It made me curious. The parts like the functions, the feel of the car, displays and things that I care about a lot have been really good. It feels like modern, fresh cars with good technology.
It's a good value car too, a lot of car for the money and all that – but I simply liked everything about the car itself. I think it should be a good car above all else, otherwise ownership becomes quite boring.
What kind of reactions have you had to the car? from family and teammates?
Everyone who has driven or test-drove one will probably agree that they are positively surprised. It's hard to know what to expect with a new brand, and not many people have driven an MG before, so expectations were probably very different.

Pushing the kids, commuting to work or just driving without thinking about where you're going. MG works for everything!
How have you used your MG?
We go pretty much everywhere with the whole family, I drive the hybrid (MG HS) so I've driven almost exclusively on electric in the city, my partner commutes to Boden and back on electric only. Then there are some excursions and longer trips with the kids sometimes.
So we've driven it everywhere, short trips around town and sometimes long distances. I especially like the summer months, where you really feel the long range of electric driving.
The whole family can fit in, 2 kids, lots of stuff. No weirdness.
What do you think is the best thing about your MG?
The display is really good, the electric range of the hybrids is really good. Leather upholstery when you have small children is also... practical, hehe.
Wireless charging for mobiles works really well, it's really nice to just put the phone away and charge. It actually works really stably. In some cars the phone may have to be in exactly the right position, but this one is stable.

Modern technology is what has brought Jonas Berglund down, and of course it's what's inside that counts... most.
Winter time then, how has it worked then?
Yes, much better than I thought. The car I drove is two-wheel drive. Of course, it's nice to have four-wheel drive sometimes, but I still think it worked surprisingly well.
I thought beforehand that I would get to ski more, but nothing happened, haha!
The heater in the app is probably the feature I liked the most in the winter. It runs at high intensity for 10 minutes, so that's usually enough, and I usually turn on the seat heating on it too. It has always worked smoothly to get going in the winter.
Finally, the most important question: If MG had been a hockey player, what position would it have played?
HAHA I would have put it as a…. Stable Back!
Good weight, stable, spacious, yet flexible.
We thank Jonas Berglund for his participation and for the gold, and wish him many more great miles!
