Electric cars have been a hot trend in the automotive world for quite some time now, and the proportion of new electric cars sold is only getting higher every year. But not everyone thinks that an electric car is something for them. Range, charging times and winter cold create many question marks among car owners. And then the price of course, because it has not been particularly cheap to own (or at least not to buy) an electric car. But now the used market has really started to get going, and it is easy to find a cheap used electric car to buy. But it is not only the purchase price that you should look at if you want to find an electric car at a good price.
7 Cheap Electric Cars with Low Per Mile Cost
In this article, we will guide you to 7 really good buys for those of you who want to find a cheap used electric car that saves money on low ownership costs. We have selected seven cars from different classes so that everyone can find a cheap electric car that suits them.
How have we calculated?
To determine what a cheap used electric car actually is, we need to know what it costs to own. Below we have included costs such as fuel costs (approximately SEK 1.50 per kWh) but also other costs such as tax and insurance, service, maintenance and depreciation. ALL costs have been added together and divided by the number of miles driven. Everything is calculated on 2,000 miles of driving per year for a total of three years (as this includes most service intervals you as a car owner are likely to encounter).
Please note that our calculations may not necessarily match your daily life exactly, and the actual mileage costs may differ slightly for you. See our list more as a guideline for which car models should be the cheapest to own for the vast majority of people.

Used electric cars in particular are surrounded by many different perceptions and opinions. Will owning an electric car really be cheaper in the long run?
If we look at this article, we get the answers to how cheap a used electric car can be to drive and own. The cheapest to drive are of course the really small cars, just like with hybrids, and gasoline and diesel-powered cars. What stands out a little is that the Kia e-Niro SUV is cheaper to drive than many cars in the mid-range.
Regardless of which cheap used electric car from the list you choose, we can say that it is significantly lower in cost than gasoline and diesel-powered cars, even hybrids.
Tips and advice
Don't focus solely on the cost of ownership, you must first and foremost ensure that the car meets your everyday needs, because if it doesn't, you won't be satisfied with the purchase no matter how low the mileage cost is.
Another thing that can easily get you caught up in cheap used electric cars is the range. Calculate how far you actually drive every day, you can usually get by with significantly less mileage than you think, especially if you can charge at home and at work. This WLTP range has become a bit of a competition, both between car manufacturers and car owners, but most can get by with a couple of miles of range a day, which almost all modern electric cars can do with ease.
