The Mitsubishi Outlander became the world's first all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid SUV in 2013, and was Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid for several years. A used Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV remains one of the most affordable ways to get a spacious, all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid.
Two electric motors, one per axle, provide four-wheel drive without a propeller shaft, and in the generation sold until 2021, the electric range is 40–50 km depending on the model year. The car can be fast-charged, which is unusual for plug-in hybrids. The Outlander is also available with diesel and then with seven seats. That generation's plug-in hybrid has a towing weight of 1,500 kg.
