We have been selling cars in Norrland since 2006 and know what winter demands. That's why we have collected all the cars that have both four-wheel drive and engine heaters – the combination that makes the car start easily in the cold and get you there even when the plow truck hasn't made it there yet.
Would you rather drive an electric car? Electric cars do not have an engine heater but can be preheated via app or timer – see our four-wheel drive electric cars. Need space for the whole family? See our family cars.
We drive in snow and cold every winter. Here are the questions we get most often.
It's not a must - with good winter tires, a two-wheel drive car can go a long way. But if you live in the countryside, have a steep driveway or drive a lot on unplowed roads, four-wheel drive makes a big difference.
Around an hour at -10 degrees and up to two hours in extreme cold is usually enough. Longer than that rarely provides any extra benefit but costs electricity – a timer makes it easy.
Both work well with engine heaters. Diesel engines especially benefit from engine heaters because they warm up slowly during cold starts.
